Good luck.Where did you find out that they run the slate mic? And what's the bundle?

My ears are kinda burnt out right now but I do feel like I'm starting to get closer as far as the processing goes.

Ive been spending sooo much time listening to the same loop over and over comparing back and forth and listening to all the little details. I already know I am not gonna sound like drake but its nice to know as an artist that I have a chain that can give me similar results in my bag of tricks if I'm writing those kind of songs.Īppreciate you siahosefid, your advise has been definitely helping me get there! Good luck.Wow that really does make a big difference when you dial in the decapitator correctly. distortion and saturation at 0.1 and bring the sample rate down to where you would still have FRQ above 12K. if you are on pro tools the last thing after your FX should be lofi plugin. try to get about 2 dB of reduction on them. cut 800ish, boost 3-4k, do another push on 15 k, now all these EQs depend on the character of vocal so might not be exactly those bands. then after you get close put on an EQ and start. push the drive to 1.7 ish and bring play with the mix knob. as i mentioned you can get most of the tone from dicapitator once you find the sweet sport. its a lot of Eqing and harmonics and shaping the verb and everything else you put on as a send. to an average listener you can get close if a similar voice but you can't make lil uzi sound like drake. Now the OVO studio runs the slate mic bundle and a **** load of gear. with EQ and Harmonic Distortion you can get very close, but if your own voice doesn't have the frequencies that are in his then you can't. I know for a fact that some of drakes earlier works were recorded on a AT4040 on the Tpain tour bus. If anybody has any suggestions or ideas I could try, I would appreciate it! I just feel like maybe theres a plugin I could add or some type of parallel compression technique I could use to help me get the upper mid a little bit more warm and soothing because right now it sounds a little harsh in that region. I already know a lot of people are just going to say "Thats just his voice" but I know theres some extra sauce that I could add to get even a little bit closer because when I listen back to his older records compared to his newer records, you can tell theres some heavy processing involved. I also notice that my voice is a little bit more nasally but Ive tried adjusting the EQ's in sooo many ways. I feel like its just missing that higher mid warmth. I feel like I am 60% of the way there, Im pretty comfortable with all my compression but I am clearly lacking in the EQ department. I am trying to create a similar sound to Drakes vocal chain on Sicko Mode.ĭisclaimer: I know I'm not drake lol! I just wanted to record it so I had something I could A/B with as I figure out my own chain that has a similar tonality. I recently purchased the slate VMS and I am currently testing out this C800G emulation. I know theres a lot of really talented and skilled engineers and I was hoping somebody could shed some light on this. I never really post much, I just lurk around and try to learn as much as I can so I figured I would ask here. I been using most of my own music as a test dummy
